สมาคมวงโยธวาทิตแห่งประเทศไทย เริ่มต้นจากการรวมกลุ่มจัดตั้งกลุ่มวงโยธวาทิตในประเทศไทย นำโดย นายโกสินทร์ สืบประสิทธิ์วงศ์ ใช้ชื่อว่า Thai Marching Band (ไทยมาร์ชชิ่งแบนด์) เริ่มก่อตั้งในปี พ.ศ.2546 เริ่มแรกของการจัดตั้งสมาคมฯ ได้ทำกิจกรรมเกี่ยวกับวงโยธวาทิต อาทิ การจัดการอบรมวงโยธวาทิต การจัดทำ Website เผยแพร่ความรู้ด้านวงโยธวาทิต การช่วยเหลือวงโยธวาทิตในประเทศไทย เช่น การจัดหาผู้ให้การสนับสนุน และรับบริจาคเครื่องดนตรีไปบริจาคยังโรงเรียนห่างไกลและขาดแคลนอุปกรณ์ดนตรี การเชิญผู้ฝึกสอนวงโยธวาทิตไปให้ความรู้ทางด้านดนตรีกับโรงเรียนต่างๆ ฯลฯ

หลังจากนั้นจึงได้เริ่มมองแนวคิดการจัดการประกวดวงโยธวาทิตระดับนานาชาติขึ้นเพื่อดึงวงโยธวาทิตจากต่างประเทศเข้ามายังประเทศไทย เพื่อที่วงโยธวาทิตในประเทศไทยจะได้มีเวทีการประกวดระดับนานาชาติโดยไม่ต้องลงทุนไปต่างประเทศ ดังนั้นกลุ่ม Thai Marching Band จึงได้จัดการประกวดที่เป็นระดับนานาชาติขึ้นเป็นครั้งแรกของประเทศไทยเมื่อปี พ.ศ. 2553 โดยใช้ชื่อว่า Thailand International Marching Band Competition (TIMBC) และได้จัดการประกวดเรื่อยมา จนกระทั่ง ปี พ.ศ. 2557 เข้าสู่ปีที่ 5 จึงได้เปลี่ยนชื่อโดยใช้ชื่อว่า การประกวดวงโยธวาทิตโลก ชิงถ้วยพระราชทานฯ แห่งประเทศไทย หรือ Thailand World Music Championships (TWMC)

ต่อมาในปี พ.ศ. 2555 ได้มีแนวคิดในการจัดตั้งสมาคมฯ ขึ้น เพื่อพัฒนาการประกวดวงโยธวาทิต และกิจกรรมวงโยธวาทิตของประเทศไทยให้มีศักยภาพ โดยแรกเริ่มได้ใช้ชื่อ สมาคมไทยมาร์ชชิ่งแบนด์ และ สมาคมการประกวดวงโยธวาทิตโลก ประเทศไทย ได้มีการจัดตั้งสำนักงานประจำภาคต่าง ๆ ของประเทศไทย รวม 5 สำนักงานได้แก่ ภาคเหนือ ภาคตะวันออกเฉียงเหนือ ภาคกลาง ภาคตะวันออก และภาคใต้ โดยมีผู้อำนวยการสำนักงานในแต่ละภูมิภาคดูแลประสานงาน และจัดกิจกรรมการต่างๆ เพื่อให้ได้ผลประสิทธิภาพมากยิ่งขึ้น และในวันที่ 24 สิงหาคม 2563 รัฐบาลไทยได้รับการรับรองให้เป็น สมาคมวงโยธวาทิตแห่งประเทศไทย อย่างเป็นทางการ โดยมี นายโกสินทร์ สืบประสิทธิ์วงศ์ เป็นนายกสมาคมฯ คนแรก

ปัจจุบันสมาคมวงโยธวาทิตแห่งประเทศไทย ได้มีการจัดการประกวดและทำกิจกรรมด้านวงโยธวาทิตในประเทศไทยอย่างต่อเนื่องและเพิ่มมากขึ้น ทั้งในระดับภาคและระดับประเทศไทย เช่น การประกวดวงโยธวาทิตแห่งประเทศไทย หรือ Band Competition of Thailand (BCT) นอกจากนี้สมาคมวงโยธวาทิตแห่งประเทศไทย ยังได้เป็นสมาชิกของ สมาพันธ์วงโยธวาทิตแห่งเอเชีย หรือ Asian Marching Band Confederation (AMBC) และ องค์การวงโยธวาทิตโลก World Marching Band Organization (WMBO) ทำให้การจัดการประกวดวงโยธวาทิตหรือทุกกิจกรรมของสมาคมฯ ได้รับการรับรองมาตรฐานและเป็นที่ยอมรับในระดับโลก

The Marching Band Association of Thailand began as a group called Thai Marching Band, founded by Mr. Kosin Suebprasitwong in 2003. Initially, the group carried out activities related to marching bands, such as organizing marching band training, creating a website to disseminate knowledge about marching bands, and assisting marching bands in Thailand by finding sponsors and accepting donations of musical instruments for donation to schools in remote areas lacking musical equipment, and inviting marching band instructors to provide musical knowledge to various schools, etc.

Subsequently, the idea of organizing an international marching band competition arose to bring marching bands from foreign countries to Thailand, so that marching bands in Thailand would have an international competition platform without having to invest in traveling abroad. Therefore, the Thai Marching Band group organized the first international-level competition in Thailand in 2010, under the name Thailand International Marching Band Competition (TIMBC). The competition was held continuously until 2014, its 5th year, when the name was changed to Thailand World Music Championships (TWMC).

Later, in 2012, the idea to establish an association emerged to develop marching band competitions and marching band activities in Thailand to their full potential. Initially, it was named the Thai Marching Band Association and the Thailand World Music Championships Association. Five regional offices were established throughout Thailand: Northern, Northeastern, Central, Eastern, and Southern, with a regional director in each region to oversee coordination and organize activities for greater efficiency. On August 24, 2020, the Thai government officially endorsed the organization as the Marching Band Association of Thailand, with Mr. Kosin Suebprasitwong as its first president.

Currently, the Marching Band Association of Thailand continues to organize and increase the number of marching band competitions and activities in Thailand, both regionally and nationally, such as the Band Competition of Thailand (BCT). Furthermore, the Marching Band Association of Thailand is a member of the Asian Marching Band Confederation (AMBC) and the World Marching Band Organization (WMBO), ensuring that the association's competitions and all activities are recognized and accepted at the international level.
